One of the main factors in the aging process is the natural accumulation of Progerin, a protein that induces aging in skin cells. Progerin is present in our bodies since we’re born, but starts accumulating progressively in our 30’s (3% per year). As cells age, the natural production of collagen, laminin and elastin in the skin decreases. As a consequence, the collagen bridges break below the epidermis and DEJ layers of the skin which causes it to collapse, giving way to wrinkles and sagging.
